What We Are Doing to Reduce Infant Mortality
The FLOURISH Community Leaders Cabinet (CLC) leads FLOURISH’s work. The CLC includes community leaders from parent and neighborhood groups, doulas, and community health workers, all of whom are elevating the challenges Black families are facing in our region. Together, the CLC helped set FLOURISH’s priority areas, reviewing data and discussing key areas influencing our region’s Black infant mortality crisis: transportation, housing, safe sleep and coordinated quality care for moms, which includes prenatal care, behavioral health and home visitation efforts.
Priority Area Issues
Coordinated Quality Care
Improving access to quality care and coverage, because too many Black women receive inadequate or late prenatal care.
Behavioral Health
Convening local organizations to increase access to mental health and substance use services for pregnant and new moms.
Safe Sleep
Identifying solutions to reduce the number of sleep-related, as well as sudden and unexplained, infant deaths in St. Louis.
Transportation
Working with transportation organizations to help families get easier access to health care and social support services.
Housing
Advocating for safer housing conditions for Black families, especially in public housing complexes, to protect their health.
Home Visitation Collaborative
Partnering with local home visiting providers and community members to build infrastructure for home visitation in St. Louis.
